F.A.Q.

When is the best time to take a class?
The best time to take a class is 2 months before your due date.  For example, if your due date is mid December, then the best time to take your class is in October.  However, classes seem to fill up fairly
quickly, so I suggest giving yourself plenty of time to sign up.  I can only accommodate 12
couples in a class!

When should I sign up for a class?
Early as possible! The classes fill up quickly, I would suggest at least 4 months before your due date!

What kind of stuff do you cover
The childbirth class is a prepared childbirth class. I cover everything from anatomy/physiology, stages of labor, breathing and relaxation, birth of your baby, partner tips and tools, postpartum and a tour of
labor and delivery.

Do I need to bring anything to class?
Please bring two pillows and a blanket. We will be getting on the floor to practice. Bring a sack lunch
or you can grab a bite out and bring it back to class. We cover a lot of material, so we’ll take a short
30 minute break for lunch.

Where are classes held?
Classes are held in the waiting rooms of YOUR Doctor’s office. Please note that if your are a patient of Dr. Binford, you will come to the OBGYN Group of Austin’s waiting area at 1301 West 38th St. Suite 300.  If you are a patient of Women Partners in Health you will come to 1305 W 34th St #308

What about parking?
IF you are a patient of the OBGYN Group of Austin, or Doctor Binford please note:
Medical Park Tower parking lot is now a pay lot on the weekends. Daily rate is $8.00. If you don’t want to pay for parking, you can park accross the street (Off of 34th Street) on Bailey Lane. Please see map below:

If you are a patient of Women Partners in health, you would park just like you are coming for an appointment, either underneath their building, or in the Bailey Lane parking lot.

Should my husband/partner come to class?
Yes, I encourage them to participate! Yes, partners are encouraged to attend every class. Partners are an essential support person for labor, breastfeeding, and newborn care, and will therefore benefit from each class.

Why should I take a class?
A good class prepares a couple for childbirth in several ways that a book or video simply cannot do.  By becoming informed you can reduce anxiety and apprehension, thereby enabling you a more positive birth experience. In a classroom setting, couples have the opportunity to ask questions and interact with other pregnant couples which tends to bond everyone together.  I often have couples that connect in class and go on to have continued friendships!
